Gutter Drains Onto Sidewalk
Setting up a proper residential drainage system is no easy task.
Gutter drains onto sidewalk. One of the corrugated tubes has a dip in the middle of the run which isn t ideal but otherwise during the summer this configuration works decently for the time being. If your sidewalk is poured cement and pretty sturdy you can run the pipe under it. Featuring durable vinyl construction this extension can be buried bent or connected to additional sections. Currently for each gutter corrugated tubing is run underground under the sidewalk for approximately 20 feet where it discharges out the side of the hill approximately 18 inches lower than where it began it s not a steep hill.
It s not an issue many homeowners think about until the time comes where it s necessary. Diverters and extenders are widely available and handy homeowners can complete this option as a do it yourself project. Use this downspout extension to divert water away from the foundation or connect to drainage pipe and catch basin to control drainage. It s fairly easy to install.
You just need to try not to dig so much soil out that the walk shifts and be sure to repack the ground as much as possible. Clean gutters regularly to keep rainwater flowing freely. Do not direct diverted rainwater towards sidewalks driveways or other solid surfaces in order to avoid icing hazards during winter weather. The flexible design easily bends and holds its shape and can be extended from 25 in.
In colder climates water from gutters draining onto a sidewalk entranceway can be dangerous as the water will freeze making a slip and fall hazard. One of the easiest ways to avoid potential issues from gutters is to use diverters to guide the water into a nearby flowerbed or onto your lawn. Simply cut your gutter extender at a 45 degree angle and connect it to your downspout with the zip hinge and 8 screws. Attach elbow to bottom end of downspout and connect a downspout extension to carry rainwater away from the foundation.
If the walk isn t solid just dig it up and run the pipe. There are a variety of different ways to do this but we recommend building your very own retractable downspout using zip hinge. If using a splash block at end of downspout be sure the splash block and ground upon which it rests slope away from the house.
